Cafe Cuba… or why I love hoodblogs…

I was reading Hill and Heights and I came across their little blurb about Cafe Cuba (via Style Weekly) opening up in Stratford Hills so we immediately packed everyone up and headed cross’ the river. I am deliriously happy that I came across that, because not only are the owners (Rene and Adis) some of the nicest people, but the food is as authentic as it comes.
It took me away to my days back in Miami… popping in to little cuban shops, having a media noche, a cafe con leche and some flan for dessert. It had been awhile since I have had an authentic cuban meal like that, and if you are into that sort of thing, then head over and say hi to them… I’m sure you’ll love it.

  • Thanks for the review. I was wondering if they were a good place to check out. Paradise Cafe is a good stop too. They are only open from 6am to 3pm but they service breakfast all the time, which is fine by me.

I have always wanted to have Cuban cuisine. I have heard of Kuba Kuba (not sure of the spelling) in Carytown but I hear the service is dreadful. It doesn’t matter how good the food is, I cannot stand bad service and attitude.

  • I’ll definitely try out Paradise…

Kuba Kuba is great. Awesome food, good servers, and the owner (manny) is a great guy (and really good cook) You should give them a shot.

Cafe Cuba reminds me of my days back in Miami, when I hung out at my buddy’s house and his grandma woould make us a great lunch or dinner.

  • I will give them a try. I have had a couple of people tell me the wait staff at Cuba Cuba was not nice at all. They didn’t say this of the owner just the wait staff. I don’t like people who give me attitude. I am a pretty nice and accommodating person so I am willing to give places a shot. :)

I got lots to still explore in Carytown. The only places I generally go to are One-Eyed Jack’s, Plan 9, Soak!, and World of Mirth. I haven’t checked out half the places down there and I lived in Ric for many a year. There were good reasons though but I am changing it. hehe
